Terms of Service
These terms apply to the OpenTrains iOS app and to this website. By using OpenTrains you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1.Who we are
OpenTrains is operated by Florian Mari, an individual based in France. You can reach us at support@opentrains.site. OpenTrains is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of SNCF, Trenitalia, or any other railway operator.
2.The service
OpenTrains shows schedules, real-time status, platforms, delays, estimated positions, and rolling stock for long-distance trains, and lets you keep a history of the trips you track. This information is assembled from third-party operator feeds and public open data.
3.No warranty on data
No warranty. OpenTrains provides train, schedule, platform, delay, and position data as-is, for informational purposes only. This data comes from third-party sources, including SNCF, Trenitalia, and public open-data feeds, and we do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Always check with the operator before travelling. We are not liable for missed trains, missed connections, costs, or any decision made based on the data shown in the app.
OpenTrains reserves the right to modify, limit, or discontinue any data, feature, or public data access at any time, without notice.
4.Your account
You sign in with your iCloud account. There is no OpenTrains password. You are responsible for keeping your device and your Apple account secure. You can delete your OpenTrains account at any time from Settings in the app; this removes your profile, trips, and notification settings from our servers.
5.Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data from the app or its API;
- reverse engineer the API, bypass authentication, or impersonate another user;
- send abusive request volumes or otherwise interfere with the service;
- resell or redistribute data obtained through OpenTrains without permission.
We may suspend or terminate access that breaks these rules.
6.Availability
OpenTrains is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that the app or its servers will be available at any given time, and we may change, suspend, or stop the service, in whole or in part, at any time.
7.Liability
To the extent permitted by French law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of OpenTrains, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app, if any. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including consumer protection rules in your country of residence.
8.Third-party data and licences
Station data is derived from the Trainline Stations database, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Timetable and real-time data come from railway operators and public open-data portals under their respective terms. Map content is provided by Apple Maps and is subject to Apple's terms.
9.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with its "last updated" date. Continuing to use OpenTrains after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10.Governing law
These terms are governed by French law. Any dispute will be brought before the competent courts in France. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you keep the mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence.
